The usual questions
Yes. Mewmori is a desktop pet for macOS that runs a language model on the computer itself: Qwen 3.5 (2B) through llama.cpp. Screen reading uses on-device OCR. Nothing about the screen, the conversation or the memory is sent to a server for the cat to work. It is free, 26 MB, and needs macOS 14.6 or later.
Yes, and what it sees stays on the computer. It looks at what is happening in the active window and decides how to behave and what to say. Screenshots, window text and file names are never transmitted.
No. Screen contents, conversations and the cat's memory stay on your Mac, and there is no account to sign in to. What does leave the machine is ordinary app telemetry: crash reports and anonymous usage statistics, listed item by item on the privacy page.
Facts, not chat history. Facts about you, preferences, projects, and plans: the things that let it pick up a conversation a week later. Memory is stored locally; sources can be switched off, and saved entries can be reviewed and deleted.
Because the model runs on your machine rather than on a server. That's the language model for conversations, and it runs on your computer. It downloads only when you first want to talk; without it the cat is still alive.
Chattiness is adjustable. When you need complete silence, send the cat to sleep in the menu bar. It comes back when you call.
The app, two cats, and the games are free. Extra looks and accessories are bought once, with no subscription. Full list on the pricing page.
Mac, Windows, Linux
The same cat, the same wardrobe, and the same model on your computer.
Free, 26 MB, macOS 14.6 and later. Apple Silicon and Intel.
The installer is built and tested: the cat walks the desktop, downloads its model, and talks. A public beta is next.
The cat already draws on Linux, and memory and the model build there too. Next are the shell and an AppImage.
Dates will follow once it has run on other computers. When a build is ready to download, we will post in Discord.
